Although I’d been classified as shy, quiet and an introvert, I guess I’ve taken enough drama and public speaking classes to know how to generally look “on” when needed. Not too long ago I realized that “turning it on” and living from a space of “on” were two completely different places of Being. This discovery was the catalyst for this article as well as a lot of new energy work! Recently I practiced this state of Being On when I went to a 3 day conference for speakers, coaches, healers on Ecstatic Wealth. Sounds like fun, huh! I’ll tell you more about how it played out in a minute.
Anyone who knows about the Law of Attraction gets that you create what you think. We try to think positive thoughts, say our affirmations and generally BE what we want to become. Truth be told: sometimes it works like a dream…sometimes we see the opposite results. Why?? While I’ can’t answer that for every person or situation, I can say that it ALWAYS has a lot to do with how I’m relating to my Self in this world. If I want to transform myself into an ecstatically wealthy, radiant, extrovert (or whatever floats my boat), it takes more than being the Little Engine that Could…”I think I can, I think I can…” While I love that story and it’s a start to the process…deep, internal transformation takes a bit (or a lot) of alchemy. A definition of alchemy is taking something ordinary and turning it into extraordinary. The art of transmutation. Turning lead into gold.
In simplistic terms, for alchemy to occur you need 3 things; the vessel to hold the materials, the base material you want changed and the material that transforms. Using this analogy; if you want personal transformation, you may simply center on your body (the vessel of transformation), your mind (the substance to be transformed) and Spirit or God (the source energy that transforms).
Our body is the beautiful home for our spirit or soul. Body and Spirit are separate yet intertwined. When we neglect our body we are neglecting the whole being. Even further, when we make our body the slave to our mind (you must eat this and exercise like that…or you will get sick and unhealthy…) we are STILL neglecting the Whole. Take a moment and imagine what it’s like for your body to be the vessel for the limitless energy that is You. Close your eyes if you like and really feel into this. You, your Highest Self, the being that is connected to God, Spirit, Source is in fact infinite. You agreed to come into this tiny body to experience the material world. What’s it like to know deep down the truth of this? Now ask your body what it really wants. Many of you may say love, acceptance, kindness, gentleness. Think of your body as a little animal. Care for it in the same way you’d care for your dog or cat. Shower it with love, forgive it’s mistakes, keep it safe, indulge it, tickle it’s tummy! As you retrain your body to know it’s safe and loved here on earth, you will manifest a happier, healthier, juicier body and you will walk in the world with a deep sense of confidence, belonging and safety. Do you see the connection? Our bodies are the material representation for our spiritual being. Let’s let go of making it the slave or neglecting it completely. Trusting that we’ve evolved beyond kicking the dog when we had a bad day; let’s treat our body like our beloved pet and we will manifest this love, loyalty and confidence in our daily life.
The next step in the alchemical process is the mind. I see it as the lead that’s being transformed into gold. Now, there is nothing inherently evil about lead. It’s a natural substance, found in the earth and has many uses. We also know that lead is toxic. Do you know why? Chemists state, it’s toxic because it preferentially replaces other metals in biochemical reactions. That kind of sounds like what our minds do! The mind (otherwise known as our ego) preferentially likes to replace other forms of Knowing and spiritual guidance. In order to create the alchemical process in our lives we don’t need to hate, judge or eliminate our mind/ego. Simply infuse it with the proper transformational substance and we turn lead into gold! In my work as an energy healer and coach I’ve noticed many people want to rid themselves of their ego as has been the spiritual trend for millennia. Law of Attraction fans have a constant fight with the mind to “keep vibrations up.” In my experience, both ways of functioning tend to backfire and continue the same experiences that we are trying to rid from ourselves. My mind/ego is my partner! It continually tells me areas that need healing. Thank you! It runs my bodily functions and my subconscious work (like driving to pick up my daughter from school). I’m grateful for this partnership. And, I continually use transforming spirit to keep my mind/ego from taking over my choices, my purpose, my life’s work. The less I think about things and the more I ‘do a gut check’ or ‘follow my heart’ the better my life turns out. It’s sometimes scary to teach a class without notes or make choices without weighing all the options and writing out lists and seeking all kinds of advice. I comfort my mind and tell her she can weigh in but she’s not the boss. I ask my heart and gut and God and Spirit and then do what feels lightest. That may excite or terrify you (as it does me at different times) but it’s truly a way out of mind/ego and into Knowing.
The final aspect of our alchemical process is the agent of transformation! God, Spirit, connection to Source, connection to Oneness. This is where the fun begins! As an energy worker, I love the energetic principles in my connection with God. It takes away all the misinformation from childhood catechism and gives me a pure, unbiased relationship with Source. There is no judgment or tit for tat involved in connecting with Spirit for guidance or manifesting my deepest desires. Spirit is one with me and I with Spirit. I bring down the energy of Source to clear away my stuck energy and I use my image making skills (imagination) to create the life I choose. Source only wants me to connect with it’s beauty and perfection. It doesn’t even understanding our flawed ideology of: “If I’m good I’ll get my prayer answered.” Or the recent LOA configuration: “If I think the right thing I will get my thoughts answered.” All Source does is match the energetic frequency I am at. Let’s play with Spirit and speak our deepest truths. Release “doing it right” and bring in the complete loving relationship that’s available to us. Many of us don’t want to show our darkest feelings for fear of manifesting them. Well, by not acknowledging them we actually keep them locked up under a pile of pretty affirmations. When I say speak your truth, I call it the “Lieutenant Dan truth.” Remember in Forest Gump when Lieutenant Dan was on the mast of his boat during the hurricane and he screamed at God? That’s the kind of truth I’m talking about. God can take it! Be willing to ask for what you want like a little child. A child doesn’t think about the right way, she just asks! Energetically, as you release your truth and ask for what you want, alchemy occurs! To sum up the three secrets of alchemy; treat your body as the sacred vessel of transformation. Love your ego/mind for the gifts it brings and the work it does. And bring in the transforming Spirit to alchemize the lead in your life into gold!
As I stated earlier, I practiced these at the conference I attended recently. I wanted to embody myself fully, stand in my radiance from within and be my truth at the moment. The first step I took was to love my body as my beloved pet – flaws and all. As I released self-judgment and comparing myself to others, I just looked inward and asked my Self what I wanted in the moment. It allowed me to play and dance with abandon as if it was just me in the room with some good music! I had people take pictures of me as I practiced shining like a star! I even jumped fully into the evening of burlesque dance lessons! I’ve never told anyone this before, but the “Lead” in my mind has a running tape (or I guess Mp3) of “You look like Pippy Longstocking…not Bridget Bardot. Quit it with the starlet act.” I’m a redhead from the era of redheads being the oddest thing not the hottest thing. I truly spent some time, loving my mind/ego, giving it space to be…and then turning my attention to the infinite Spirit running through me, which is the Truth of who I AM. The alchemical transformation was that I didn’t need to be The Star, or strive to be seen at the event, I just was me with beauty and quietness, a bit of whimsy and the desire to shine my light on this earth and be ALL that I came here to be! That feels like alchemy!
