How to change subconscious beliefs! Part Two: Imagination

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming events.” – Albert Einstein

Another way that we reprogram our subconscious mind to connect with Divine Purpose is through the power of imagination. Remember, the subconscious mind is emotional and processes ideas simultaneously, using pictures.

The success-myth of “doing” is so prevalent in our society that even Nike has chosen the words: “Just Do it!” as their company motto. I suppose that’s ok if what they mean by “do it” is: “imagine it, visualize it, feel it, be inspired by it, and then take actions that are inspired.” But that’s probably too long for a motto, right?

Often we think of imagination as something that kids do. Unfortunately, as we grow up our imaginations get snuffed out quickly as our parents and teachers tell us to quit daydreaming. What we are really doing when we’re imagining, is exercising one of the most powerful mental faculties we’ve been given. Here’s an example of what I mean:

Not long ago I saw a news story about an autistic boy who was the coach’s helper for his high school’s basketball team. He mostly did little things like bringing water and handing out towels. As he was attending to his duties, he would imagine himself playing for the team. He was always rehearsing in his mind the incredible things he would do in game situations.

His passion and devotion to the team earned him so much respect from the coach that in the final game of the season the coach allowed him to suit up for the game. Then with four minutes left in the game, the coach unexpectedly substituted him in.

His first shot was a twenty-footer from the right baseline that missed everything. His second was about the same, but on his third shot he drained a three-pointer, and something just clicked. The images he had rehearsed to over and he began to hit shot after shot. He made six straight shots, mostly three pointers, for a total of twenty points. With each succeeding shot the crowd grew wilder and wilder. When he hit his final three-pointer as time was running out, the scene became utter mayhem. Because of his autism, he was used to feeling different, but this was very different from his real life experience, this was something he had only experienced in his imagination!

The success-myth of “Just Do it” could have never brought this type of result. His success was the result of the images he had played this over every day in his mind – like a movie. The success myth of “just Do it” would have made this situation a fluke and this was no fluke! The script of this movie had been written and rehearsed many times before it actually played out. This is the amazing creative power God has place within each of us!  (Olsen, Zero to Hero, 23)

“Creative Imagination” is the process by which the finite mind has direct communication with infinite intelligence. It is the faculty through which “hunches” and “inspirations” are received. It is by this faculty that basic or new ideas are handed over to man.

It is through this faculty that thought vibrations from the minds of others are received.” (Hill, think and Grow Rich, ch5)

“True Success” begins as an image in the mind. Human beings have been endowed with powerful God-given creative faculties, and the act of creation begins as we create a vision or an image in our mind. Imagination is the mental faculty out of which visions arise.

Everything that has ever been created started out as an image in somebody’s mind, like watching a movie. One of our biggest problems is that we don’t comprehend the power of our own minds. What is mind? Mind is movement and when you put your movie into your mind it begins to move into form.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.”  – George Bernard Shaw

How to change Subconscious Beliefs!

There are deeper levels to the Law of Attraction. What you attract into your life is not based on what you consciously think about. What you attract into your life is based on what you unconsciously believe.”  Dr. Joe Vitale

All of us would like to make changes in our lives, such as feeling happier, having more meaning and joy on a daily basis, having more financial abundance, losing weight, having better relationships, starting a new career, or taking up a new hobby. But actually making those changes can often be the hard part. Why is that?

The difficulty lies in the fact that our minds are made up of two parts. One part is responsible for rational, conscious thought and processes ideas sequentially, using language. The other part is emotional and processes ideas simultaneously, using pictures.

The emotional, subconscious mind is far more powerful than the rational, conscious mind. It is capable of processing more information, controls approximately 95 percent of the thoughts you think and the actions you take each day, and is motivated by the pull of pleasurable rewards and the push of negative emotions.

“If you think of the emotional mind as an elephant and the rational mind as the rider, you can understand the challenge of change. The rider can control the elephant, as long as the elephant doesn’t have any strong desires about the direction it wants to go. If the elephant doesn’t want to go, the rider has very little chance of forcing it.” (Canfield & Bruner, Tapping into Ultimate Succcess, 3-4)

Unfortunately, the success myths we discussed in principle one always seem to rely on will power as the way to changes our lives. Studies have shown that when you attempt to use willpower to create change, success is very limited. Will power has proven to be an exhaustible resource. Trying to change our lives through willpower alone is like trying to tame the elephant to obey the will of the rider.

If our emotional, subconscious elephant is experiencing fear, anger, sadness, anxiety, the rider’s will is pretty insignificant. We are often quick to blame our inability to make changes with willpower on a moral failing or weakness. But in reality it’s just the way our brains are wired.

The elephant’s limiting beliefs keep it paralyzed, believing not only success is impossible, but any attempts to try could cause intense pain. Apparently Roger Bannister had an exceptional elephant.

Simply understanding your fears and limiting beliefs, does not give you the ability to overcome them. Consider a person with a fear of flying: He may know consciously that flying is safer than driving in a car. Nevertheless, this doesn’t prevent his elephant (subconscious mind) from experiencing certain symptoms every time he boards an aircraft.

Our minds constantly experience subconscious thoughts that we are not aware of, yet they have a huge effect on our emotions and consequently the vibrational signal we send out.

I will be introducing techniques that will help you change your unconscious beliefs.

Technique #1: Meditation

“Meditation is an essential travel partner on your journey of personal transformation. Meditation connects you with your soul, and this connection gives you access to your intuition, your heartfelt desires, your integrity, and the inspiration to create a life you love.”  ― Sarah McLean

Mediation is valuable because it helps slow down the activity of the brain caused by stress, anxiety and urgency. These emotions create a vibrational signal that is dissonant from spiritual connection.

In order to continually stay in a vibrational frequency that attracts what is desired, it is necessary to maintain the lowest energy activity from within the brain as possible.

This is accomplished through meditation, which slows brain activity, and brings a sense of peace, calm, well-being, and inner-knowing.

How to Raise your Emotional Frequency!

Raising your vibrational frequency isn’t hard to do, but learning a few techniques will help you master it. Once you’re doing it consistently it will become a part of your new life of Divine Purpose.

In order to raise your frequency you can ask yourself, “What would make me feel good right now?”

Feeling good is feeling God and raising your frequency is about resonating with the “goodness of God.”

Did you have a negative reaction when I asked, “What would make me feel good right now?” Did you immediately think, “That’s self-centered” or “Not everything that feels good, is good”?

Remember, this is about your Divine Purpose not about satisfying your ego or base desires. We are talking about feeling good mentally, emotionally and spiritually and becoming more connected to your Divine Source. We are talking about things that nurture you, uplift you, honor your, and strengthen your spiritual connection.

When you act on purely physical desires like overeating, abusing your body, or being hurtful to other people, you may feel good temporarily but you only become more dissonant from your Divine Purpose.

We are referring to the deeper feelings of the spirit, not the shallow feelings of ego.

The “Universal Principle of Renewal” is about re-connecting to spirit, to the goodness of God and to Divine Purpose! The Emotions Energy Chart below lists emotions in the order of their frequencies from highest to lowest.

The emotions at the top of the chart (Love, acceptance, joy, passion) are most likely to resonate with spirit. While those are the bottom (Fear, despair, shame, unworthiness) are most likely to be dissonant from spirit.

By learning to maintain a high frequency, you’ll become so tuned in to your spiritual source that your life will become a joyful experience! Things you want will begin to manifest, your problems will dissipate more easily and you will begin to experience a state known as “flow.”

Emotional Energy Chart

There are really only two emotions, love and fear, all other emotions stem from those two.

  2. Passion
  3. Enthusiasm / Eagerness / Optimism
  4.  Positive Expectation / Belief and Faith
  5. Optimism

Low-frequency emotions

  1. Boredom
  2. Pessimism
  3. Frustration/ Irritation / Impatience

I like feeling good.
I like feeling inspired and uplifted.
I like feeling expansive and open.
I like feeling excited about my life.
I like it when everything flows easily for me.
I love it when my frequency is nice and high

How to Achieve Your Dreams!

So many people today are stuck in a rut. It’s not because they aren’t talented; it’s not because they haven’t connected with God’s goodness, but it’s because their vision is limited. They can’t see beyond their circumstances. They don’t see themselves accomplishing their dreams, being promoted or living healthier. They just see more of the same because it’s what they are focused on. What you see is what you’re going to move toward.

The truth is, we all have vision. Every one of us has a picture in our mind of our self, our family and our future. The question is: what does your picture look like? Do you see yourself rising higher, overcoming obstacles, living an abundant life? Do you dare to dream beyond your circumstances? Today, why don’t you change your focus? Lift your eyes beyond your circumstances. Get a higher dream, a greater vision for your life. See yourself the way God sees you and move forward in the abundant life He has prepared for you!

When Jack Canfield began working for Clement Stone he was only making $8,000 a year. Because of the things Mr. Stone taught him about the power of intention, within a year Jack’s in income had increased to over $93,000.

When Jack was interviewing people for one of his books, he Interviewed Lou Holtz, the legendary Notre Dame football coach. At the time Lou had just lost a head coaching job and was feeling discouraged and, depressed. His wife had gone back to help with the family finances. She came across a  book that gave Lou titled, “the Magic of Thinking Big,” which recommended creating 100 goals you want to accomplish in your life. Lou actually came up with 107 goals, including things like, winning a national championship, meeting the pope etc. When he shared his list of goals with his wife, she commented: “you need another goal – find a job!” Lou added that to his list of goals bringing the total to 108.

At the time when Jack interviewed him, Lou had accomplished 102 of his goals.

The Power of Intention requires writing down and getting clear on exactly what you want to attract into your life, what you want to be, do and have. A clear request is more likely to stimulate intense emotion.

Don’t worry about “how” you’re going to do something, just commit yourself to the end result and the way will be shown to you. Ask and believe, then you can receive. This eliminates the fear of failure.

If you want to go to medical school you don’t eliminate it from your realm of possibility just because you don’t have the money. You put that down as your intention, you ask, you believe and then you allow the way to be provided.

Don’t let the lack of money, or the lack of anything, keep you from your Divine Purpose! Create your intention by asking and believing, then remain detached as you allow what is needed to manifest. The power (or energy) of your intention will draw it into your life through the universal principle of resonance.

How to use Autosuggestion (or Affirmations)

Affirmations are a very effective way to reprogram our subconscious beliefs. Napoleon Hill wrote about this as a way to connect to the powers of the universe. This article is specifically about manifesting money, but you can use the formula to manifest anything that is part of your Divine Purpose.

First: Go to a quite spot where you will not be disturbed or interrupted. Close your eyes and repeat aloud (so you may hear your own words) the written statement of the amount of money you intend to accumulate, the time limit for its accumulation, and a description of the service or merchandise you decide to give in return for the money. As you carry out these instructions see yourself already in possession of the money.

For example: suppose you intend to accumulate $500,000 by the first of January, five years hence, that you intend to give personal service in return for the money, in the capacity of salesman. Your written statement of your purpose should be similar to the following:

“By the first of January 2017, I will have possession of $500,000, which will come to me in various amounts during the interim.

In return for this money I will give the most efficient service of which I am capable, rendering the fullest possible quantity, and the best possible quality of service in the capacity of  salesman of (describe the service or merchandise you intend to sell).

“I believe that I will have this money in my possession. My faith is so strong that I can now see this money before my eyes. I can touch it with my hands. It is now awaiting transfer to me at the time, and in the proportion that I deliver the service I intend to render in return for it. I am awaiting a plan by which to accumulate this money, and I will follow the plan when it is received.”

Second: Repeat this program night and morning until you can see, (in your imagination) the money you intend to accumulate.

Remember, as you carry out these instructions, that you are applying the principles of auto-suggestion, for the purpose of giving orders to your subconscious mind. Remember, also, that your subconscious mind will act only upon instructions that are emotionalized, and handed over to it with “feeling.”  Faith is the strongest and most productive of the emotions . . .

These instructions, at first, seem abstract. Do not let this disturb you.  Follow the instructions no matter how abstract or impractical or abstract they may, at first, appear to be. The time will soon come if you do as you have been instructed, in spirit as well as in act, when a whole new universe of power will unfold to you. (Hill, Think and Grow Rich, p.62)

How to Recognize the Path of Divine Purpose – Divine Signatures

The path of Divine purpose is marked with Divine Signatures. Divine Signatures are miracles and blessings that are evidences of divine help. They are spiritual proofs that the divine approves and supports you on your path.

We’re not supposed to have little dreams or little plans. We are supposed to have big dreams. You are supposed to go out into the deep things the “goodness of God” has for you. But understand, when you’re out there in the deep waters, you can’t touch the ground. You can’t see the shoreline, and at times, it can get a little rocky.

Your Divine Purpose is calling you into deep waters. The “goodness of God” is with you, because there are deep things on the inside of you. When you are in those deep waters, you are not alone. God’s goodness is always there, causing those deep things inside of you to come forth.

If you feel like you are out in the deep today, if you feel like you are overwhelmed, remember, you are in the right place, the “goodness of God” is with you. You will see Divine signatures in the deep, and you will fulfill the Divine Purpose that is in store for you.

Best-selling author Wayne Dyer said: “If I feel called to something higher and then do nothing about it, I’ll generally find myself experiencing discontentment and disappointment. But when I act upon that calling by being in vibrational harmony with it, and by being willing to share it with a many people as possible, I feel inspired.” (“Inspiration Your Ultimate Calling,” Dyer p.10)

As you become more deeply aware of Divine signatures, you will gain an inner knowing of your “divine purpose.” Deep inside you there is a “knowing” of what your life is to become. Listen to that voice, the one that want you to know your “divine purpose.”
